From the Rector's Desk

This summer we are moving through some staff transitions at Redeemer, and while change is often difficult, it also provides some opportunity to revision and re-orient resources based on the change in needs and the gifts of our people. As Ryan Hofacre is sent out to plant a church and Allyson Entner heads into an intensive counseling internship, we are seeking God's direction, leading and provision. The part-time Children's Pastor position has been posted in various places, and Ryan is helping to ensure ongoing leadership through our excellent group of dedicated youth volunteers, so we are gaining some clarity on the way forward in these two areas. These transitions have provided an opportunity to address a need that we have had some time--for more pastoral support in the congregation, generally.

Amanda Holm It was a great pleasure last Sunday to announce that with the affirmation of the Vestry I have asked Amanda Holm to serve as Pastor for Worship and Congregational Care. She has been a part of Redeemer for the last four years, and has been on staff as Worship Leader for half of that time. In addition she has taught classes for us in a variety of areas, counseled people one on one and helped in facilitation at a Vestry retreat. Recently she served, at Bishop Sandy's request, as our delegate to the ACNA convention in Texas. Amanda also stepped in as our Office Manager for a few months during a transition and has volunteered countless hours in support of our staff's ministry in various areas. She graduated as one of Trinity's top divinity students this year, with an emphasis in Pastoral Care, so it's a particular joy to be able to help enlarge the ministry of someone already in our midst that God has placed here and gifted in phenomenal ways, and who has already demonstrated such strong servant leadership.

As a layperson Amanda will help to model the value of lay leadership in the congregation, even as she will soon begin a process of discernment for the diaconate. Her role will be to continue leading and developing worship, along with Chris Marchand. She will also help us to grow in caring for each other and exploring ways we can deepen our journey together in prayer and discipleship. She is already working on opportunities this fall for all of us to grow in our engagement with Scripture. I have also asked her to serve as Assistant Curate (Assistant Pastor) generally, as a way of strengthening ongoing pastoral ministry throughout the congregation.

Please welcome her to this new task and pray for her, even as you are praying for all of our leaders and the discernment we need. I'm grateful for you and for God's abundant provision that will strengthen our worship and witness in this region. Next week Susan and I will be in Wisconsin for a time of rest. I look forward to worshiping with you again on July 19th.

Peace,

Jay

Birth Announcement - Elizabeth Kozlova

Congratulations to Alex, Eugenia and Masha on the birth of Elizabeth Beatrice Kozlova! She was born on July 2, weighing in at 7 lbs. 13 oz. and is growing well.

From Eugenia — "We have been amazingly blessed by the Lord with her. Elizabeth has an antigen that my body has an antibody against and this could have caused problems. But she is a 100% healthy child. Thanks for all your prayers. We really appreciate it. Nothing helps like prayer."

Summer Transitions

You are probably aware that we are in the midst of some staff transition over the next few months. We have now posted the job description for the Children's Pastor opportunity at Redeemer, and encourage you to have any potential candidates contact our office for complete information. Please pray for this search, and for the leadership among our youth, that God would identify and raise up the leaders that are being called.

COR@9 — Continuing this Week

Please join us during the 9 o'clock hour as we continue our study on the Theology of Money. Even if you haven't made it to the previous weeks, we still invite you to jump right in this coming Sunday and participate!

When we hear talk of money in the church, it usually has to do with the topic of tithing, yet for most of us this accounts for only a small percentage of our money and possessions. It also only accounts for a small percentage of what scripture says about money. God is as concerned about how we use the money that we keep as he is with the money that we give to the church. As Richard Halverson stated "Jesus Christ said more about money than about any other single thing because, when it comes to a man's real nature, money is of first importance. Money is an exact index to a man's true character. All through Scripture there is an intimate correlation between the development of a man's character and how he handles his money."

We are using Randy Alcorn's book Money, Possessions and Eternity as a guide in an examination of what God has said about our stewardship of the money and possessions in our care, and the impact of our use of them from the perspective of eternity. There is no requirement to read the book, only a desire to learn more about God's perspective on this important topic.
