Parent's Night Out / Kid's Journey to Rwanda

We're all looking forward to a special event this Saturday where we can share our family in Rwanda with our friends and neighbors here on the North Shore. The Children and Youth ministries at Redeemer are hosting a great celebration for kids around Rwandan themes, while their parents enjoy a night out.

Join in this Saturday, November 7th, from 5-9, at Redeemer Lutheran on Deerfield Rd. Games, crafts and activities will be centered around Rwanda and Sonrise School, and there will be sandwiches, snacks and Rwandan food (to try).

Do you know a family you have been meaning to introduce to our church? Invite the parents out for dinner, and drop off the children (infants through 6th grade) for the special activities. This kind of event is a great way to reach out to others, as we also 'reach in', strengthening our ties to St. Michael's, Sonrise School and our family in Rwanda.

Trinity President at Redeemer This Sunday

President Craig Williford This Sunday we welcome a very special guest to our worship service. Dr. Craig Williford was named President of Trinity International University earlier this year, following eight years as President of Denver Seminary. Dr. Williford has also pastored in several large churches and taught at the university level, having earned his PhD at Trinity in the '90s.

Dr. Williford is in high demand as a speaker and representative of the school he leads, so we are particularly grateful that he has chosen to be with us, given the number of invitations he receives. Redeemer has a unique opportunity in our relationship with Trinity to shape the next generation of the church as we help to identify, call forth, equip and send leaders for the mission field of the world. Join us this Sunday morning, and bring along someone that needs to be encouraged, as Dr. Williford preaches on the theme "Trusting in the God You Didn't Expect".

St. Matthew Our weekly teaching series continues as we encounter Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew. This is a transforming learning opportunity that will run through the Easter season next May, taught by a team of seminarians being formed in community, led by Amanda Holm, our Pastor of Worship and Congregational Care, and Dana Harris, who teaches New Testament at Trinity.

If you haven't yet participated you can jump in and start now. This week Amanda will be teaching from Matthew 6 on where our treasure really is. 9am this Sunday.

Financial Update

In these final weeks of the year, as we prepare to wait on the Lord's coming (Advent) and celebrate his arrival (Christmas) we also are offering ourselves to God in fresh ways. One of these ways has to do with our resources—including finances.

As we look to the end of the year we have a sizeable need in front of us to be met so that our mission as a congregation, through its leaders and various ministries, can continue and can be strengthened in 2010. It's usual that in the fall of each year our giving increases, and we plan accordingly in the budget. This year we also need to see a substantial response, as in previous years, to meet the need.

At this point, we still need about $100,000 (or almost a third of our total annual budget) in order to end the year in the black. We are grateful for the generosity of each person at Redeemer, expressed in so many ways. Redeemer people are generous, not only in local giving, but in response to other needs, such as Sonrise School. The Lord is using Church of the Redeemer in remarkable ways, and as we give, we each share in that.

So thank you for praying, asking the Lord to help us meet this need, then responding as the Lord directs. Thanks be to God for his many blessings and the abundance of his provision.

Offering last Sunday: $2,990
Needed by year's end: $101,721
