Redeemer at Ravinia - September 1

Where to meet up at RaviniaChurch of the Redeemer will be attending the Labor Day Tchaikovsky Spectacular at Ravinia! The Park opens at 4 pm. We'll be sitting on the near north side, at the east end of the Martin Theatre, near the pavilion (see the map at right). Bring a friend, drinks, and a dish to share! We'll start dinner around 5 pm. Downbeat is at 7 pm; concert ends around 9:30 with the 1812 Overture with real cannons! Note: This is one of the most popular events of the entire summer; parking will be at a premium. If you're not there by 5 pm, you're likely to end up taking a shuttle bus in from satellite parking. Car-pooling is a good idea! Some of us will get there at 3:45 to reserve a place.

New Ministry Opportunity

This fall Redeemer Kids is beginning a class for children two years old to four years old! We are so excited to expand our ministry to this age group and want to offer you the opportunity to be a part of it. There is just one more available teaching spot with this class, so please contact Allyson Entner if you are interested in serving.

Office Need

Church of the Redeemer is in need of an Office Administrator to run the day to day operations of the church office and offer administrative support to our ministries. This is a 25 hour per-week position. A full job description is available by emailing redeemer@redeemernorthshore.org, and will also be posted on our website.

Anglican Studies

For the autumn semester (Michaelmas Term) Fr. Jay will teach a reading course in the polity of the Anglican Mission, available to Trinity students and others who are interested in the history and calling of the AMiA. This 1 credit course will entail a couple of meetings, some required reading, and summary papers (for those taking for credit). If you would like to participate for personal interest, contact the Church of the Redeemer office.

Some previously mentioned calendar items...

COR@9

Church of the Redeemer at 9am on Sundays will bring opportunity for growth, discipleship, a deepening of commitment and connection as we follow God in our life together. There's a little bit of a play on words here—COR being the oft used abbreviation for our church, which sounds like 'core'... meaning we will be digging into some core areas of faith and values for our church at 9am.

We begin—and this is no accident—with a month to look at God's heart for children. Jesus interacted with children a lot, especially in a society that didn't value children. To say that we must become like little children to enter God's kingdom was a radical thing to say at that time, and it still is. Dr. Susan Greener will be leading this conversation with the goal of raising our congregation's awareness of how the scriptures treat the child and how children are valuable to the Lord and to us.

Children's Ministry

Along with the emphasis during COR@9 our own children's ministry is implementing some new curriculum following a summer of reflection and evaluation. We are growing in our children's ministries, from Nursery through school age years, and how we minister to and with children and families is a high value for us. This is an exciting season as Children's Pastor Allyson Entner works with outstanding teachers and an advisory team to help us live out what Jesus said. You are invited to visit a class at any time, and to encourage the children at Church of the Redeemer.

Church Picnic

We'll gather behind the church on September 14th for food and some fun. Stay tuned for details....

Alpha

AlphaDo you know about the Alpha course? It has been offered in hundreds of thousands of settings around the world, and is a powerful introduction to the Christian faith. Developed at Holy Trinity Church in Brompton (London) England, this ten week series is effective at helping people come to faith in Christ and in strengthening the knowledge and faith of Christians. The environment for the course is non-threatening, so people can bring their questions and objections as they work through barriers to faith. Church of the Redeemer will offer at least one location (perhaps two) beginning in late September. Training for leaders is September 6th in Lake Forest, and we do need people to help work with the course each week and prepare food. If you would like to be involved with this life-giving course contact the coordinators, Ricki Rosengren or Jill Roeckeman

Growing Leaders

If you are involved in leadership, at any level, at Church of the Redeemer, our next gathering is September 20th from 9-10:30 at the Evangelical Church in Highland Park. If you want to learn more about leadership, or the things we are working on, then you are invited, as well.
